Elegant solution for electronic signing in B2B

External signature: an elegant solution for electronic signing in B2B

In a B2B environment, there are often situations where you need to conclude a contract with a business partner electronically, but you encounter different requirements for the signature method. You insist on using a recognised or qualified certificate within your OBELISK Signing Portal, while the partner refuses to use your solution and wants to sign the document in their own tool, for example Adobe Acrobat. How to resolve this situation?

External signature as an elegant way

This is what the external signature function is for. It allows the partner to conveniently download a document from the OBELISK Signing Portal, sign it with their recognized or higher certificate and then upload it back to the OBELISK Signing Portal.

Automatic signature verification

After the document is uploaded, a thorough check of the validity of the signature and the level of the certificate used is performed. It is required that everything complies with the requirements that have been set for the signature. The external signature does not base the verification on the information in the certificate itself, but uses actual data from the issuing CA. An important part of this is the validation report, which provides the basis for an unambiguous decision on the correctness of the signature. If the signature does not meet the requirements, it is rejected.

When an external signature is the ideal choice

External signature is a practical solution in situations where you do not want or cannot force partners to use OBELISK Signing Portal, but at the same time you want to avoid lengthy sending of documents via e-mail. It offers a comfortable compromise between flexibility for the partner and maximum control over the accuracy and level of the electronic signature.
